At Kerry Park Skating Club, we strive to create an atmosphere of inclusiveness.
To allow and encourage a growing membership, allowing athletes of all ages and abilities to reach their full potential in a safe and challenging environment within our community.
Senior STARSkate Coach
April is a highly experienced coach with deep roots in our community. She has guided skaters at Kerry Park Skating Club from their first steps on the ice through to competitive levels.
This season, April is stepping back from CanSkate and broader club duties, but she will continue coaching select senior STARSkaters and representing KPSC at competitions.
April holds NCCP Level 3 Certification with additional training toward Level 4/5 Singles, is a Skate Canada Certified National Coach, and has Gold CEP status. She specializes in competitive skating and choreography, helping skaters refine their technique, artistry, and performance in a supportive and challenging environment.
Club Coach - STARSkate Programs
Coach Rhys brings a wealth of experience and enthusiasm to our club! A local and former student of Coach April’s, Rhys has returned home once again to share his passion for figure skating with the next generation.
He holds certifications in CanSkate, PowerSkate, and NCCP Level 1, and is committed to helping skaters develop their skills in a positive and supportive environment. Rhys is an accomplished skater himself, earning medals at the Canada Winter Games and Junior Nationals, as well as completing his Gold-level tests in Freeskate, Skills, and Interpretive.
With nearly a decade of experience performing as a principal skater with Disney on Ice, Rhys not only entertained audiences around the world but also served as a mentor and leader for other cast members. In addition to competitive figure skating, he has coached power skating, fitness, and off-ice training.
We’re excited that Rhys is back with our coaching team and can’t wait to see the positive impact he’ll continue to have on skaters of all levels!
Club Coach – CanSkate Programs
Coach Emma brings over a decade of experience in figure skating and learn-to-skate instruction. Originally from Powell River, she began volunteering as a Program Assistant in 2011 and has since coached with both the Powell River Figure Skating Club and Powell River Minor Hockey’s First and Second Shift programs.
She is a Skate Canada-trained CanSkate Coach and is currently completing her next level of certification as a Regional Coach, which qualifies instructors to work with STARSkate athletes. Emma is passionate about helping skaters of all ages and abilities build strong fundamentals in a fun, supportive environment. She has worked with children as young as three and has experience supporting skaters with diverse learning needs.
Now based in Duncan, Emma will be leading the Learn to Skate, CanSkate, and Adult Learn to Skate programs at Kerry Park Skating Club this season. She is excited to be part of our community and looks forward to continuing her coaching development alongside our STARSkate athletes.
As an adult skater herself, Emma competed at the 2025 Vancouver Island Region Championships, where she earned 1st place in the Silver Women Free Skate event — bringing both recent competitive experience and athlete insight to her coaching.
