CanSkate is Skate Canada’s flagship learn-to-skate program for kids aged 5–12. It builds a strong foundation in skating skills, focusing on balance, control, and agility — all in a fun, group environment. Certified coaches and trained Program Assistants guide skaters through Stages 1 to 6, helping them develop skills for figure skating, hockey, or recreational skating.
Who it's for:
New and developing skaters working on foundational skills.
Skaters must be age 5+ at the start of the session, able to move forward on the ice, and get up independently.
What to expect:
45-minute sessions.
5 min warm-up, 35 min group lesson, 5 min cool down.
Group lessons led by certified coaches and trained Program Assistants.
Fun, engaging instruction focused on balance, control, and agility.
Skaters earn ribbons and badges as they progress.
Schedule:
Tuesdays: 4:30–5:15 PM
Saturdays: 10:00–10:45 AM

Who it's for:
Skaters who have completed Stage 4 and are preparing for STARSkate.
Note: This year’s format is 45 minutes of fully coach-led instruction — no independent practice block.
What to expect:
45-minute sessions.

Group lessons led by certified coaches and Program Assistants.
Continued development of advanced skating skills.
Skaters earn ribbons and badges as they progress.
Increased focus and independence.
Prepares skaters for transition to STAR 1 and beyond.
