For Skaters Ready to Train Beyond CanSkate
STARSkate stands for Skills, Tests, Achievement, and Recognition. This Skate Canada program introduces skaters to the world of figure skating through four main disciplines:
- Skills (edges, turns, field moves)
- Ice Dance
- Free Skate (jumps, spins)
- Artistic (expression, choreography)
Skaters have the opportunity to participate in Skate Canada assessments and competitions, following a nationally standardized progression from STAR 1 to Gold.

🌟 What Happened to “Junior” and “Senior”?
Some clubs still refer to beginner figure skaters as "Junior" and more advanced ones as "Senior." But Skate Canada now uses STAR levels instead.
- Skaters working on STAR 1–2 may be referred to as Junior in club communications
- STAR 3–Gold skaters are sometimes referred to as Senior
Our website and programming now reflect Skate Canada’s official STAR 1–Gold language for clarity and consistency.
